These days my goal is to be as awesome as the dogs think I am. I am living with two yellow Labradors, who think that I am the awesome-est person in the world.

Cats could care less about what people do, but dogs are nosy. They literally frisk you every time you come in or leave the house. In the beginning, when I used to come back from work, I would have to stop at the front door for at least 10 min for Kaya (the mischievous one!) to inspect me. She would give me that look: "You are back? Again?", "When do you really go?" "Ok, let me see if it is safe for us to let you actually come in" *sniffs, circles around*.
Even after two months, I still have to let myself be inspected everyday but the reasons for the activity has changed. Now Kaya would give me the look that says: "Oh you are back! Did you bring me treats?", "Com on, com on, where are they?" *circles around*.

The other one, Maggie, is the quieter one. She likes the outdoors and nothing makes her more excited than the word "walk". You tell her that you will take her out for a walk and she will do anything you'd ask. Unlike cats, dogs are just cute: a cat will never fall for the same trap again, the dog however will never know that it was a trap even when you do it over and over and over again. You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, `My God, you're right! I never would've thought of that!'

A tip: Do not scratch a Dog. If you scratch a dog, you have found yourself a permanent job. The dog will find ways to make sure you keep on scratching-- for eternity.

For those of you who have never had a pet, you would be surprised at how capable these creatures are in communicating themselves.
A dog can express more with his tail in minutes than his owner can express with his tongue in hours. It's funny how dogs and cats know the inside of folks better than other folks do. Maggie has an absolutely uncanny knack of knowing what I am thinking, even of what I am feeling.

A cat will only give you the privilege of 'talking' to her when she wants something, a dog, however, just talks too much. I am glad they don't have human language skills. If dogs could talk it would take a lot of the fun out of owning one.

Dogs feel very strongly that they should always ride with you in the car - in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear. (Don't Ask!)

From my experiences with 'pets', I have learned that in order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him.

  6. @ Nothingman

oh yeah cats are definitely smarter than Dogs which doesnt really work in the "human's" favor. The dumber the dog, the better it is for the human, if u know what i mean...;-)

  7. Nothingman Says:

@AD...if those legs in the display pic are yours, i'll be more than willing to keep you ;)

  16. Haris Gulzar Says:

I like the way you first explained how a cat behaves and how a dog is "just cute" and then the way you associated them both with having a true perspective of ones importance... Nice post (Y)

  20. Palvshe Says:

you are soo right .. i dunt like cats ... i always feel like they are showing me attitude or ignoring me or something like that ... Whereas dogs are so faithful, everytime i get back to home my dog (titan)welcomes me with great excitement and i can see his happiness clearly by the movement of his tail .... do you know dogs even have emotions???

  21. Ubaid Says:

mujhey mano billi chaiya hai :(

  22. @ sulo badri

Yes, my sister has a cat at home :-)

  23. I love dogs. Cats, nope.
Kittens maybe, but not cats. Hate cats. They are evil, sinister little things.

I am gonna get a golden retriever someday. Dogs are fun to hang out with. They are just very lovable.

Psst, you know dogs are better pets right? A dog will pull you out of a burning building. A cat will sneak out quietly and admire the fire from outside.

  24. I am forwarding this post to a certain someone who is nuts about cats.
    Hope ya don't mind.

  25. tulipspeaks Says:

i just love dogs. Own a Lab too. Soon, another Rott :)

    ammu.

  26. ani Says:

    couldn't agree more!!!! :)

  27. Shruti Says:

unlike cats dogs are cute? :-O what an evil statement! What could be cuter than a cat!? U haven't ever kept a cat, have u, Raaji? Maybe that is why u don't know.
Yes I have had a cat.. many cats, and I have experienced their communication skills. They understand us well, but live with them for a long time and even we begin to understand them.

Dogs talk too much. Cats dont. See.. so which is better?
Cats dont ignore! Its a myth! My little cat used to walk up to me, and stare at me, climb on me when I give her a nod of approval, lick n brush its mouth against my chin and go to sleep curled in my lap. They NEVER ignore u when u'r ill. They'll stick by ur legs or wherever u want them to be.
Sigh.. I cant take anything against cats. We had this one specificlly intelligent cat. We used to feel that its going to change into human form very soon!

  28. Shruti Says:

Hershey, keep a kitten na then.. and when it grows, what will u do? give it away? meanieeee!
U hate cats? U called it evil? :-O :-O I'm sooo going to strangle u for this!
And pets are pets. Dogs and cats are both good pets. Dogs may make better security guards. Pets are not kept so they can pull u out of the fire! hmmphh!

  29. :P
I knew posting that comment wasn't a good idea :P:P

  30. Sumit Says:

there was a time i was scared of dogs, but then things changed when mum got a dalmatian. i think now i love them too :)

  31. @Hershey

You are entitled to your opinions. I, for one, likes both cats and dogs. I think they are very distinct animals which have very different things to offer.
    :-)

  32. @ Shruti

Hey, about your comment on my blog

Doesnt look like you have ever read my blog properly:
    http://raajii.blogspot.com/2009/06/cat-n-small-mammal-with-attitude.html

    :-)

from dogs being "cute" i meant dog are more innocent than cats. I add that you can make a fool out of dogs but seldom can you do that with a cat. We currently have a cat at home. May be you want to read the post about dogs again, this time from an unbiased point of view :-)

  33. Shruti Says:

    :) I re-read my comment here.. I wasn't as hyper as I sounded ok?

yea Raaji, I do read ur blog properly and I have read that post.. had commented there too. U have lived with a cat which ur family now has.
Cute has a lot of meanings, na? mm.. u know u can make a fool of cats also, but if u try second time, they'll yawn on ur face! :P
U know what? I love dogs too. When I visit my cousin's place, I spend more time with their dogs than with them!
But, when someone says they're nicer (in whichever way) than cats, the cat in me wakes up ;)
    Cheers!

  34. @ Shruti

Yep exactly, Cats are smarter than Dogs, thats the whole point! :-)

    Love em!

  35. Jadis Says:

Ah cats for the win~!!! :D

But it's not really about that is it? It's all about the company, and eitherwhichway, pets are the best thing that happened to humanity... ;P

  36. Siva Says:

Between i wonder why the girls like pets more than boys?

  37. @ Siva,
Hey I never made any argument about not liking boys. Where did you get that comparison?! :-)

  38. Siva Says:

ah...its my english, sorry about that. i meant to say most of the girls like pets, but only less number of boys likes pets.

Thanks for visiting my blog and comments. I doubt i could blog very often, now you know my english ;) also i am more of a reader than writer. so expect many more comments from me. Have a good day there :)

  39. @ Siva
haha, alright, well that could be because dogs can be a handful with so much energy and usually girls tend to prefer calmer creatures... hehe. and cats are definitely cuter than dogs :P

  40. guy alone Says:
